Italy welcomes BRI

The news of today regarding BRI, is that Italy might be the only G7 country embracing the Chinese Initiative. An article of the Financial Times, highlighted how Italy is currently underway on the talks with China while stirring a negative reaction among the other G7 countries.

In particular the U.S. said the project was unlikely to help Italy economically and could significantly damage the country’s international image, the paper reported, as they view BRI as a ‘made by China, for China’ initiative. Italy’s support for China’s BRI initiative would undercut US pressure on China over trade and would undermine Brussels’ efforts to overcome divisions within the EU over the best approach to deal with Chinese investments.
